Tips for Waking Up Early

· · Note
  • Try to set a consistent wake time. Don’t worry about your bedtime, it will naturally align.
  • Wake up at the same time every day, including weekends.
  • Try to set a plan the night before for how you’re going to spend your first 15–20 minutes or so of your day (showering? making coffee? taking meds?) You;ll hopefully learn to love your new morning schedule. I know I look forward to mornings a lot now.
  • Try not to set up an elaborate morning routine. It’s best to keep things simple. Your brief routine should prep you for your day.

My Morning Routine

  • My daily routine: make a pourover, take my meds, sit in front of my sun lamp and write for 20 minutes. I’m thinking about tagging on a 30-minute daily walk in addition to it.
  • I use an alarm clock app on my Android phone called Alarm Clock Extreme, which allows you to require a QR code scan to disable the alarm. I’ve placed the QR code on my fridge in the kitchen, so I have to physically get out of bed and walk over to my kitchen to turn off my alarm. Helps get me up and keep me up, because I can jump right into making my coffee.
